Tashkeel Summer Camp Gives Children a Creative Alternative to Screen Time
Artist-led workshops in Dubai aim to nurture creativity, problem-solving and hands-on learning during the school holidays.
As schools break for the summer, Dubai-based arts organisation Tashkeel is offering children the chance to swap screens for sketchbooks, clay and creative making through a two-week Summer Camp designed to develop artistic skills and imagination.
Running from 13 to 24 July, the programme is part of Tashkeel’s year-round Young Artists Club and welcomes children aged 4 to 12 to participate in hands-on workshops led by professional artists and designers.
Hosted at Tashkeel’s campuses in Alserkal Avenue and Nad Al Sheba, the camp encourages children to explore art, design and making through practical projects that build creativity, confidence and problem-solving skills.
Rather than focusing solely on producing artwork, the sessions are designed to help children experiment with different materials, think creatively and express their ideas in new ways.
Learning through creativity
Across the two-week programme, participants will explore a wide range of artistic techniques, from ceramics and sculpture to illustration, printmaking and recycled art.
Projects include creating clay animals, designing personalised travel bags, building glowing animal lamps, making moon-inspired lights, producing handmade books using RISO printing, designing wearable T-shirts and constructing three-dimensional sculptures from recycled materials.
Many of the workshops also introduce children to sustainability by encouraging them to create artwork using recycled and everyday materials.

Led by practising artists
The workshops are delivered by UAE-based artists and educators with professional experience across contemporary art, ceramics, graphic design and creative education.
By working directly with practising artists, children gain insight into different creative disciplines while learning practical techniques in a supportive studio environment.
Supporting skills beyond the classroom
Creative programmes such as these are increasingly recognised for helping children develop skills that extend beyond art itself.
Activities involving design and making can strengthen critical thinking, collaboration, communication, fine motor skills and creative confidence—qualities that complement classroom learning and support broader personal development.
The programme also gives children an opportunity to explore interests that may not form part of a traditional school curriculum, while encouraging curiosity and independent thinking.
Flexible participation
Families can enrol children for individual workshops or the full week-long programme.
The Summer Camp runs from 13–17 July at Tashkeel Makerspace in Alserkal Avenue and from 20–24 July at the Nad Al Sheba campus.
