Sharjah Public Libraries Launches June Programme Focused on STEM, Creativity and Community Learning

Sharjah Public Libraries June Programme

Month-long initiative across Sharjah explores digital literacy, space science, entrepreneurship and cultural heritage through 24 interactive events.

Sharjah Public Libraries is expanding its role beyond traditional reading spaces this June with a month-long programme designed to blend education, creativity, wellbeing and community engagement across the emirate.

Developed in collaboration with six cultural, educational and community partners, the initiative will feature 24 events spanning literature, science, entrepreneurship, sustainability and heritage, with activities taking place across multiple public libraries and cultural venues in Sharjah.

The programme reflects a growing regional shift towards libraries functioning as interactive learning hubs rather than solely book-lending institutions. Through workshops, storytelling sessions, discussions and outreach activities, the initiative aims to engage children, teenagers, families and senior citizens in hands-on educational experiences that connect learning with everyday life.

One of the programme’s strongest themes is STEM and future-focused learning for children and young people. In collaboration with Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology, Dibba Al Hisn Library will host “Galaxy Journey”, an interactive session introducing children to planets, stars and space exploration.

Meanwhile, Kalba Public Library’s “A Future Without Gravity” workshop will encourage young participants to imagine life beyond Earth, while “The Future of Digital Identity” at Wadi Al Hilo Library explores how digital presence and online communities are shaping the next generation.

Creativity and storytelling also play a central role throughout the programme. Younger audiences will be invited into literary and imaginative experiences through events such as “A Letter from Hogwarts”, inspired by the world of Harry Potter, alongside music-based storytelling sessions and art workshops using wax painting and sustainable materials.

For teenagers and young adults, the programme introduces workshops focused on identity, mindfulness and creative expression. “My Family Film” encourages participants to transform family memories into short films, while “Tai Chi” introduces moving meditation techniques designed to support focus and mental wellbeing.

The initiative also places strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and practical skills development. In partnership with Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre, Khorfakkan Public Library will host “Brand Engineer”, a workshop introducing participants to the fundamentals of innovative brand-building and entrepreneurial thinking.

Alongside youth-focused activities, the programme includes community and intergenerational initiatives designed to strengthen cultural identity and social connection. “Memory of the Nation” will bring together students and senior citizens to exchange stories and preserve oral heritage, while “Story Kitchen: A Flavour from Every Home” combines food traditions with storytelling and family history.

Environmental awareness also features prominently through workshops such as “Happy Planet”, developed in partnership with Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, which introduces children to conservation and ecological responsibility through interactive learning.

As educational institutions across the UAE increasingly prioritise experiential and interdisciplinary learning, the June programme highlights how public libraries are evolving into spaces that combine literacy, creativity, science and community engagement under one roof.

By integrating technology, culture, wellbeing and entrepreneurship into accessible public programming, Sharjah Public Libraries is positioning itself as a key contributor to lifelong learning and youth development in the emirate.
