Dubai Gets Its First Accredited Bachelor of Music Degree

SAE University College Dubai

SAE University College launches a three-year programme combining music, technology and industry experience as the UAE expands its creative economy

Aspiring musicians in Dubai will have a new pathway into the professional music industry this September, with SAE University College launching what it describes as Dubai’s first accredited Bachelor of Music degree.

The three-year programme is designed for students interested in music production, songwriting, performance, audio engineering and the business side of the industry. Applications are now open for the September 2026 intake, with further intakes scheduled for February and May 2027.

The launch comes as the UAE places greater emphasis on developing its creative and cultural industries. Under the UAE National Strategy for Cultural and Creative Industries, the country aims to increase the sector’s contribution to 5% of GDP by 2031. The wider MENA music market is also expanding, with recorded music revenues in the region growing 15.2% in 2025, according to the release.

From classroom to studio

Rather than focusing solely on traditional music education, the programme combines creative development with technical and commercial skills.

Students will study areas including songwriting, electronic music production, studio production, stagecraft, live performance, creative musicianship, entrepreneurship and music business. They will also develop professional portfolios and gain workplace experience through a major industry project.

Learning will take place in SAE University College Dubai’s professional-standard studios, using industry equipment and software and alongside academics and working music professionals.

The programme has also been developed with industry partners including Melody House, Muzikminds and Hungarian-American songwriter and producer Miklos Malek.

Jan Horn, Managing Director of SAE University College Dubai, said the programme responds to the UAE’s growing demand for creative professionals.

“As the UAE continues investing in its creative economy, it’s vital that talented young musicians can develop their skills, build industry connections and pursue international careers from right here in Dubai,” he said.

Preparing for a changing music industry

The degree reflects a music industry that increasingly sits at the intersection of creativity, technology and entrepreneurship.

Graduates could pursue careers in music production, songwriting and composition, artist development, audio engineering, live performance, music supervision, entertainment, content creation and music business.

Zubin Aroz, Head of Department – Music at SAE University College Dubai, said the programme aims to give students both creative freedom and practical expertise.

“Music has never been more entrepreneurial or technology-driven than it is today,” he said. “Our goal is to help students discover their creative voice while giving them technical expertise and professional confidence to build sustainable careers.”

Scholarships for aspiring musicians

To make the programme more accessible, SAE University College is offering scholarships of up to AED 50,000 to eligible aspiring music students.

The September 2026 intake is currently accepting applications, with additional entry points in February and May 2027.
