Build 13.8 Billion Years of History at Abu Dhabi’s Natural History Museum
A new LEGO® experience will bring Earth’s history, wildlife and the cosmos to life through hands-on building, play and discovery.
What if you could explore 13.8 billion years of natural history, one LEGO® brick at a time?
That is the idea behind LEGO® SHOWS Natural Brickstory, a new limited-time experience opening at the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi on August 21. Designed for children, families and curious minds of all ages, the experience uses play and creative building to introduce visitors to some of the biggest stories in natural history.
Rather than simply looking at exhibits, visitors will be invited to build, experiment and discover through a series of interactive activities inspired by Earth’s history, wildlife and the cosmos.
Where science meets play
The experience brings LEGO® brick building together with the museum’s scientific stories and specimens. Across themed zones, visitors can participate in collaborative builds designed to turn complex ideas about the natural world into hands-on experiences.
The concept reflects a growing emphasis on experiential learning, particularly for younger visitors. By encouraging children to create and explore rather than simply observe, the exhibition aims to make scientific concepts more accessible and memorable.
“Play is fundamental to learning and discovery,” says Dr. Peter C. Kjærgaard, Director of Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi. “It sparks curiosity, fuels imagination, and nurtures creativity, the very qualities that drive scientific exploration.”
He adds that the collaboration puts play and imagination at the centre of the visitor experience while encouraging the next generation to develop an interest in science and the natural world.
From the cosmos to wildlife
Natural Brickstory will take visitors through themes connected to the vast timeline of natural history, with activities inspired by the origins and evolution of our world, the diversity of wildlife and the wider cosmos.
The experience is designed to be collaborative, giving families and groups opportunities to build together while exploring the museum’s scientific narratives.
Visitors will also be able to take part in trails and workshops, with additional activities expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
For students and young learners, the format offers another way to engage with science beyond the traditional classroom. Building and experimentation can provide an accessible starting point for conversations around evolution, biodiversity, geology, astronomy and the history of our planet.
A different way to experience the museum
The LEGO® experience extends beyond the exhibition itself. Visitors can continue exploring the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi’s permanent galleries and collections, which feature remarkable specimens and immersive experiences, alongside dining and retail facilities.
Alia AlHammadi, Acting Partnership and Commercial Department Director at Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, says the experience is intended to offer both first-time visitors and LEGO® enthusiasts a different perspective on the museum.
The result is an experience that connects a familiar form of creative play with the museum’s scientific collections and stories, making natural history accessible to visitors across generations.
